Dolcetto d'Alba
Dolcetto is a Piedmontese grape variety whose name naturally conjures up sweetness. This wine, which comes from the Langa hills near Alba, is by no means sweet; quite the opposite: it is vinified in a dry manner; during its two-year maturation period, it spends a full year in oak or chestnut barrels.
The wine has an intense red color with more or less pronounced violet reflections. Its bouquet is pleasantly fruity, and in the mouth it develops a full body and a soft, pleasantly bitter almond flavor, yet velvety and harmonious. It can be enjoyed young if you don't want to wait for the four-year aging period to become a "reseva."
Winery:
Founded in 1976 by brothers Franco and Carlo Pontiglione and Giuseppe Prola, Bel Colle, the "beautiful hill," is now owned by the Bosio family, a fourth-generation winegrower. In collaboration with oenologist Paolo Torchio, who managed the winery from 1980 to 2015, they have innovated cellar technology without abandoning tradition: the wine is vinified in steel tanks, and the fine wines are aged in large French and Slavonian oak barrels.
