Nebbiolo d'Alba
Nebbiolo d'Alba is a wine-growing region in the Piedmontese Roero region, west of the Tanaro River. Here, as in Barolo, only the Nebbiolo variety is vinified. Although the conditions of the two DOCs are very similar, the Nebbiolos from the Alba region are less intense and ready to drink sooner.
This Nebbiolo d'Alba is grown on the sandy "bricchi" vineyards to the left of the Tanaro River. After fermentation in steel tanks, it is aged for one year in traditional French oak barrels. Its color is pale red, but it takes on garnet tones with ageing.
It has a rich bouquet with notes of violets, raspberries, and dried fruits. In the mouth, it unfolds a good body with decent tannins and a hint of residual sweetness.
Overall, it leaves a velvety, harmonious impression.
Storage: It becomes softer with age.
Winery:
Founded in 1976 by brothers Franco and Carlo Pontiglione and Giuseppe Prola, Bel Colle, the "beautiful hill," is now owned by the Bosio family, a fourth-generation winegrower. In collaboration with oenologist Paolo Torchio, who managed the winery from 1980 to 2015, they have innovated cellar technology without abandoning tradition: the wine is vinified in steel tanks, and the fine wines are aged in large French and Slavonian oak barrels.
With the charismatic oenologist Paolo Torchio, Bel Colle has brought on board an ideal assistant and contributor to great wines. The two work together in a congenial way, as if they were one and the same.
Bel Colle harvests all the grapes from his vineyards by hand and these are then carefully monitored by Paolo Torchio during the winemaking process until they rest for a year in French Allie oak barrels, allowing the wine to find its true identity.
When you open such a barrel, violets release their scent accompanied by orange blossoms, leaves and the typical undergrowth tones of the Nebbiolo grape become noticeable.
The finish is velvety, followed by a noble and very delicate bitter note.
A very, very authentic wine of its homeland, born from the rising mists of the Piedmontese hills.
A must for every serious wine lover!
